Hour Of Code
In celebration of Computer Science Education Week, all Key School students, faculty and staff—from First School through Upper School—will participate in the second annual Hour of Code between December 8 and 12.
In its inaugural year the international campaign, launched bycode.org, engaged 15 million students in computer science by having them complete at least an hour of programming practice. Here at Key, Hour of Code activities included Upper and Middle School student coding and JavaScript seminars, Lower School Angry Birds tutorials, and learning and acting out robot–coder commands for the First School students. Across campus, our students learned to think like programmers.
Momentum for the second annual Hour of Code is growing and Key School faculty members are very excited to again be involved with this innovative educational endeavor. Every Key student will participate in this campus-wide undertaking, which will incorporate both online and offline options designed to demystify computer science. From fun and creative coding tutorials and projects using a multitude of devices such as iPads, computers and smartphones to physical activities demonstrating coding and programming, Key students will draw upon problem solving and critical thinking, as well as collaborative and creative skills throughout the week. Parents also will have a chance to participate.
